To celebrate National Preparedness Month (and the fact that the blog was only down for a few hours today when our host site crashed), we’ve got another giveaway to help you get prepped. The Freeze Dry Guy has generously donated three more fifty dollar gift cards to spend on anything at his site. So in this giveaway you have three chances to win!
To enter, you can do any or all of the following:
Answer the question: What are you using to store your water? Even if your answer is “nothing”, this should be an easy entry. We’ll be covering water in depth during October, so I may or may not use the answers from this giveaway in a post . . .
Like my Facebook page.
Subscribe to my feed via RSS or email. Use this link or the round orange button at the top of the right sidebar.
Share this giveaway. Make sure there’s a link back to the post! Scroll down to the bottom of the post and there are little share buttons that should make this easy for you.
That’s it. This giveaway will run for two weeks, ending midnight EST Monday, Sept. 24th. Use the form for entries to make sure they’re counted! Good luck!
Keep preparing! Angela

I use 55 gallon water barrels, as well as 1 gallon jugs of water from Costco.
I have limited water stored now in the form of water bottles.
I store water in 55 gallon drums.
Water is stored in 1 gal and 5 gal jugs,,..Wash water (only) in the large empty laundry containers..they sit on counter and have push spouts!!
We refill 16 oz water bottles.
I am now in an apartment, so I have limited space. I have 2 5 gallon jugs, 4 cases of bottled ringing water, and about 6 gallon jugs of water. I am still working on storing more. Meanwhile, our apartment has a pool, and I have the means to treat that water if necessary.
We’ve got a big water drum, commercial water bottles and refilled soda bottles. We have a high water table and lots of rain, so I also plan to explore a hand pump and harvesting rain water.
Thanks, Angela and Freeze Dry Guy!
I use the 55 gallon blue barrels, but also refill all juice and soda bottles with water.
Water bricks, some bottled water, and a Water Bob.
1/2 gallon juice bottles stored under the stairwell and a well.
I am using gallon apple juice bottles that I clean thoroughly and then fill with screaming hot water. They form a nice vacuum seal as the water cools.
Water bottles
I have Arizona Tea containers and blue gallon and half gallon bpa free containers filled with Berkey water. I keep them on the porch in an extra fridge. I have probably about 10 gallons altogether. I also have on extra large laundry container filled, and a couple of others gallons with distilled water. I plan on getting water treatment to add to the them so they will last longer. As it is now I just empty and refill them every 6 months.
We have two 55-gal barrels, six 6-gal glass carboys (normally used for making wine), and about sixty 2 liter pop bottles. Not nearly enough for living in the desert.
I store water in 55 gallon barrels, 2 liter soda bottles and gallon jugs.
55-gal barrel, 3 liter bottles, and a river 1/2 mile away with a Berkey.
Right now, it is very limited in a handful of 2 ltr bottles.
At the moment, nothing. But it’s something we are working on.
I buy gallon jugs and ues then as they expire and then replace them.
We stock up on gallons and bottles. We also have a few water carriers. Looking to get a larger barrel for outside. Thanks for the chance! :)
We found some blue 55-gallon barrels for sale on craigslist. They had previously been used to store tomato paste for restaurants. The tomato paste had been placed in a liner, so the barrels were not too dirty. Now, we’ve got them in the garage, sitting on a wooden pallet. We put a cup of bleach in each one, to help keep bacteria from growing. We plan to either try to reuse the water and replace it with fresh water, or add a cup of bleach every six months or so.
The very first method I used was to take a Clorox (or other brand of bleach) bottle when it was almost empty, then add water and store. Even though, I have more “sophisticated” storage methods now, I still do this with all of my Clorox bottles. I wouldn’t want to drink it, but it should be good for washing. One year, I took dozens of fruit jars and bottled my own water. I don’t even know what happened to them, to tell you the truth.
We use cleaned-out & sanitized 2-liter soda bottles, and I buy bottled water in 1-gallon jugs (the hard clear plastic ones, not the cheap milk jug kind) when they’re on sale. Also we have two 8-gallon water storage containers, the heavy-duty thick plastic ones designed for camping when you have to haul your own water in.
i’m just buying several cases of bottled water and stocking up on pool shock (we live on a lake)
I am recycling 2 liter drink containers and 1 gallon tea jugs. We need to get our 55 gallon barrels cleaned and filled. Also have an industrial sized container that is just sitting behind the shed!
I don’t store water except when I buy in gallon jugs at the store. :)
I don’t store water at the moment.
We have 20 (5 gallon) bottles stored downstairs, with smaller bottles of water in each room. When I lived in Southern California, my mother always kept bottles of water in each room, in case an earthquake would trap us inside. (Falling furniture blocking the door, structural damage, or injury preventing us from leaving the room.) If you have access to water you have a much better chance of surviving until help arrives.
I do not store water right now.
Old jugs
Big, blue storage container and lots of 2 liter bottles
I buy bottled water in 1 gallon jugs as needed and a few extra to keep on hand.
Nice site, I’m glad I found you! Would love a gift certificate!
I forgot to answer the question–I store no water, so I use nothing.
I already follow you via email AND you are on my blog roll. Do those count?
I have a 5 gallon plastic water container, a camping water bag and a case of bottled drinking water.
we dug another well
the swimming pool, a big blue container & a few cases of bottled water. need to work on this.
Nothing
Not storing water due to limited space.
In the well, and the creek across the street!! well actually I have a two weeks supply of drinking water inside, that’s it for now, working on this one very soon…
eight 55 gal blue water barrels and a buch of 2 lts
I have 6- 5 gallon jugs I constantly keep filled, plus some a few cases of bottled water. Would love to be able to store more but we rent right now! Maybe some advice for people who have limited space and not a permanent space when you do the water info in October would be great!!!
