To celebrate National Preparedness Month (and the fact that the blog was only down for a few hours today when our host site crashed), we’ve got another giveaway to help you get prepped. The Freeze Dry Guy has generously donated three more fifty dollar gift cards to spend on anything at his site. So in this giveaway you have three chances to win!
To enter, you can do any or all of the following:
Answer the question: What are you using to store your water? Even if your answer is “nothing”, this should be an easy entry. We’ll be covering water in depth during October, so I may or may not use the answers from this giveaway in a post . . .
Like my Facebook page.
Subscribe to my feed via RSS or email. Use this link or the round orange button at the top of the right sidebar.
Share this giveaway. Make sure there’s a link back to the post! Scroll down to the bottom of the post and there are little share buttons that should make this easy for you.
That’s it. This giveaway will run for two weeks, ending midnight EST Monday, Sept. 24th. Use the form for entries to make sure they’re counted! Good luck!
Keep preparing! Angela

I am now in an apartment, so I have limited space. I have 2 5 gallon jugs, 4 cases of bottled ringing water, and about 6 gallon jugs of water. I am still working on storing more. Meanwhile, our apartment has a pool, and I have the means to treat that water if necessary.
Heidi says
We’ve got a big water drum, commercial water bottles and refilled soda bottles. We have a high water table and lots of rain, so I also plan to explore a hand pump and harvesting rain water.
Thanks, Angela and Freeze Dry Guy!

I have Arizona Tea containers and blue gallon and half gallon bpa free containers filled with Berkey water. I keep them on the porch in an extra fridge. I have probably about 10 gallons altogether. I also have on extra large laundry container filled, and a couple of others gallons with distilled water. I plan on getting water treatment to add to the them so they will last longer. As it is now I just empty and refill them every 6 months.
Erin S says
We have two 55-gal barrels, six 6-gal glass carboys (normally used for making wine), and about sixty 2 liter pop bottles. Not nearly enough for living in the desert.

We found some blue 55-gallon barrels for sale on craigslist. They had previously been used to store tomato paste for restaurants. The tomato paste had been placed in a liner, so the barrels were not too dirty. Now, we’ve got them in the garage, sitting on a wooden pallet. We put a cup of bleach in each one, to help keep bacteria from growing. We plan to either try to reuse the water and replace it with fresh water, or add a cup of bleach every six months or so.
Louise says
The very first method I used was to take a Clorox (or other brand of bleach) bottle when it was almost empty, then add water and store. Even though, I have more “sophisticated” storage methods now, I still do this with all of my Clorox bottles. I wouldn’t want to drink it, but it should be good for washing. One year, I took dozens of fruit jars and bottled my own water. I don’t even know what happened to them, to tell you the truth.
JeanneS says
We use cleaned-out & sanitized 2-liter soda bottles, and I buy bottled water in 1-gallon jugs (the hard clear plastic ones, not the cheap milk jug kind) when they’re on sale. Also we have two 8-gallon water storage containers, the heavy-duty thick plastic ones designed for camping when you have to haul your own water in.
jeanine says
i’m just buying several cases of bottled water and stocking up on pool shock (we live on a lake)
Linda Hayes says
I am recycling 2 liter drink containers and 1 gallon tea jugs. We need to get our 55 gallon barrels cleaned and filled. Also have an industrial sized container that is just sitting behind the shed!
Elizabeth says
I don’t store water except when I buy in gallon jugs at the store. :)
Ashley H says
I don’t store water at the moment.
Beth T. says
We have 20 (5 gallon) bottles stored downstairs, with smaller bottles of water in each room. When I lived in Southern California, my mother always kept bottles of water in each room, in case an earthquake would trap us inside. (Falling furniture blocking the door, structural damage, or injury preventing us from leaving the room.) If you have access to water you have a much better chance of surviving until help arrives.
Pak says
I do not store water right now.
