Hi all! I’m running my first ever polls over on the sidebar until Friday night. Just trying to get a feel for where my readers are. At first I thought I would do this for future post ideas, but then I thought, well, I actually have lots of projects coming up, and I’m going to post about whatever I’m doing, so you’ll just have to hear about those things anyway regardless of how the poll numbers end up, but I’m still interested in your answers, and it may influence a future post or two ;-). Honestly, if you have any questions or items you’d like me to cover, just shoot me a comment or email and I’ll see what I can come up with.
And seriously, hit the polls! They’re anonymous, so be honest–I think this will be interesting.
ALSO, feel free to comment here to explain your answers to the poll questions if you want to–some of the answer selections are kind of vague.
Keep preparing! Angela

How fun! :-) I voted in both polls.

I basically stated that we don’t have a ton of food storage, but enough for a few months.
We have a small garden that produces a lot of what we eat during the summer. We’re still working on getting more stuff to grow, but we’ve at least started it.

Wow, that is seriously depressing. I don’t know how to do anything useful. Except for starting fires.

I know the difference between a rifle, a pistil, a revolver, and a pistol, does that count? ;D

2nd poll might need an “All of the above button” :)

This is interesting. I’ve thought of other useful skills for the second poll, but maybe another time. Like change a flat tire, start a fire w/o matches, build a shelter. I hope you all don’t think I can do all of the things I listed on the poll either! I can’t knit or crochet and I’m only so so at livestock.

Soooo, I’m pretty much useless. I did better in the food storage poll. I think you should also include a poll on water. Most people don’t think about storing water. I know I didn’t.

I love your blog & very FUN polls! I voted on both too! I'm into preparedness and food storage and we are also big gun nuts!!! Yes, I'm proud to say that I grew up in a home full of "Heat". I would click on your NRA button, but I'm already a member!!! :)

Olivia–not to worry, at least you’ve got a desire to learn! And a water poll is a good idea!
PistolMom–glad you found my blog–sounds like we’ve got a lot in common! You can always renew through my NRA button or send friends/family over–I get a little kickback for anybody that uses it, plus you know the NRA benefits from it, so the more the merrier! Thanks for stopping by. :)

Bummer I missed the Polls, I’ve been busy with an injured horse the last few days.
If you don’t mind, I’ll answer them here.
How much food storage. (if you don’t count the garden and fruit trees and the chickens and the fresh eggs,) I only have 2-3 months of non perishable foods. and I need to get storing some more. But I do have the garden and the chickens and I do know how to hunt and fish and butcher etc.
As for the poll What do you know:
I know how to garden, I know how to dehydrate foods but not so good at canning I need to learn that better.
I know all kinds of different firearms and I know how to shoot and hit what I shoot at.
I can cook with my food storage and I can cook without either propane or electricity. And I can start my own fires.
I do sew, but not very well and I do crochet very well and I’m learning to knit.
I keep chickens and horses and I’ve previously had goats and cattle and pigs, but we don’t have any at the moment. I want to get either some sheep or some small cattle (like the Dexter cattle) because we don’t have much room to keep many more animals.
I do use hand and power tools and I can operate a chain saw and cut down my own trees for fire wood. I can use an ax to split my own fire wood also.
What else I know includes:
1. I can hunt and fish and butcher.
2. I do wood working carving and wood burning designs.
3. I train horses.
4. I can trim horses hooves, but I don’t shoe them.
5. I can treat basic animal injuries and wrap up injuries as needed.
6. I can change my own tires on my vehicle.
7. I know several different wild plants in my area that are safe to eat and when they can be gathered or harvested.
