There are a lot of different scenarios for which you could be preparing. Economic downturn, natural disaster, societal collapse, job loss, etc. Not every situation will apply to you directly (like I have no fear of hurricanes where I live, but for someone else that is an annual concern), and not every situation is as likely to happen as another. In our preparations, we try to think of different things that might happen and what we would need for that particular situation. It’s good brain exercise. It also usually leads to specific areas where we need to do something or learn something or buy something to cover our weak preparedness areas.
So today we’re going to play a little brainstorming game. I’m going to introduce a situation, and I want some thoughts from you on either what you have done to prepare for it or what you think a person (you, in particular) would need to be able to be prepared for this particular situation. Got that? We’ll do this every so often, so if you have suggestions for a situation you’d like discussed, email it to me (bighorn at etv dot net) and we’ll get it on.
Here’s today’s “disaster”. You’re in the car with a kid or two driving out to a remote town to pick up something you bought from some guy on craigslist (or whatever other reason you might be going there). It’s about 20 miles to the town with really nothing but a random farm or two in between. It’s also winter time, so it’s either snowing or darn cold out. Half way there (approx 10 miles from anywhere) your car engine dies and the car won’t start again. You are out of cell phone range. What do you do? How are you or could you be prepared for a situation like this?
Discuss. Hopefully by sharing ideas we can all be better prepared. :)
