candles, preparedness/first aid books, rope, gift card for CERT course, gift card for hardware store in which to get larger preparedness items…just off the top of my head… 8-)
Michele says
Honey – not just because I am a beekeeper, but it is useful both as a food and as medicine. Honey can help cuts heal, sooth sore throats and tastes great.

Glow sticks, ponchos (those kind that fold up to the size of a credit card), duct tape, first aid kits…

Small First Aid Kit, space blanket, small flashlight, small solar charger, manual can opener, just a few ideas. I also would include knitting needles or crochet hook and yarn, keeps the mind busy.

This year I got all of my friends and family their own Survival Paint Can Heater for their cars. I am constantly trying to gauge how my friends and family feel about prepping and emergency preparedness. These worked out great for “ice breakers” and helped to get the conversation rolling. You can see how to make and use them at http://hillbillmom08.blogspot.com

Last year–heavy gloves, hand warmers, glow sticks, flashlights, headlamps, warm head coverings,. warm, water resistant coat for grandson. Tea light candles with battery.
This year–batteries of all kinds, more blankets, hand warmers, headlamps, ear muffs, wool socks, more tea light candles and batteries for them.
My daughter thinks my gifts are curious, but I point out that they should be able to use them sometime because they live in the North. All of these are gifts, not stocking stuffers. Plus, they use all but the glow sticks and hand warmers on a regular basis. She is not prepared for walking anywhere since they usually just walk to the car, drive, and get out at their destination. I did make her think about the fact her 13-yr-old car might just quit a mile from home…of course, I was thinking MILES from home.
