I’ve talked with more than one person who is not a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS) who believes that Mormons all have food storage. Unfortunately, even though there has been much said by leaders in the LDS church to encourage self reliance and home food storage, many members of the church still do not have any more food or supplies stored than the average American. There is nobody checking on each household and excommunicating them from the church if they don’t have food storage–it’s one of those commandments we either choose to follow or don’t, and while some members of the LDS church have taken the counsel seriously and have done a lot of preparing, many members still do little or nothing in this area. For some interesting statistics, check out a survey done on one Utah Mormon congregation by Connor at Utah Preppers:
How Prepared is the Average Latter-day Saint Ward?
Keep preparing! Angela

I have to sigh…if this is in UTAH, “Mormon country”, I wonder here in Puerto Rico…(should this be a question to be asked during the temple recommend interview? ;-))…However, our stakes have been insisting on this A LOT LATELY. More & more brothers & sisters are getting prepared, for their families’ sakes. With many recent small quakes here in the Island, some people are doing it out of fear than anything else. But at least they are finally getting their stuff together…
