I know you’ve always wondered whether those greasy plain potato chips would burn, and what about other popular snack chips like Fritos, Doritos, or even Cheetos? Well, my daughter and I set out to answer the question of whether you could use part of your lunch as fire tinder. Check out the video below to see which chips burned well and which didn’t so you’ll know which kind to pack for lunch on your next outdoor adventure!
If the video doesn’t load for you, you can watch it here.
Keep preparing! Angela

Joan D says
It seems that these would make better fuel than tinder as it took awhile for the chips to catch.
Guido says
None of them seems to burn well enough to be called “tinder”, exactly. You want something that ignites easily, not something that ignites after holding a lighter to it for 20 seconds. Kindling, perhaps, or just fuel, but not tinder. On the subject of taking food you probably never want to eat and repurposing it for fire purposes, apparently Crisco makes excellent candles.
Practical Parsimony says
I would never have thought of burning these foods. Unfortunately, only the Lay’s would ever be in my lunch. Interesting experiment. Even if they are not ideal, this will probably give people the idea to use what they have with them, even if it is not originally thought of as tinder.
