On the 9th day of Christmas Giveaways, I’m bringing you the opportunity to win a Wonder Oven Thermal Cooker! The Wonder Oven is an insulated soft box that looks kind of like a bean bag in two pieces, but works like a thermos. There is a pocket in the middle, and when you put hot food in it, it continues to cook because of the insulating factor of the box.
Wonder ovens are great for:
- Conserving fuel. Get your soup boiling, then put it in the Wonder Oven and it keeps cooking with the stove off!
- Keeping the house cool. Less cooking time on the stove makes less heat in your house in the summer!
- Keeping food hot. Transport your hot dishes to the potluck and keep them hot.
- Keeping food cold. Because it is an insulator and not a heater, the Wonder Oven can also keep cold foods cold! I’ve used mine to transport ice cream home from the big town 45 minutes away with no trouble.
Wonder Ovens are not too difficult to make for yourself. They are a fantastic just-above-beginner sewing project that will help you get more prepared in the process. Here are instructions and a pattern to make your own Wonder Oven if you’re feeling crafty. You can use old cotton bed sheets and stuffing from an old bean bag to keep it really inexpensive.
