Welcome to Day 4 of our 12 Days of Christmas Giveaways! Today I’ve teamed up with the great folks at EarthEasy.com to bring one lucky winner a LifeStraw Mission 12 Liter Water Purifier. Having clean water in an emergency is so important, yet is not on the glorified end of preparedness so it is often overlooked. Storing water is good, but that stored water can eventually run out. And it’s hard to take it all with you if you have to leave your house! The LifeStraw Mission is perfect for families, groups, or even individuals looking to have a way to provide clean drinking water in an emergency or on any outdoor adventure. Use the special code SURVIVAL15 to get 15% off ANY LifeStraw product at EarthEasy through December 31st! That includes the original LifeStraw, the LifeStraw Family, and the LifeStraw Mission.
From EarthEasy’s site:
LifeStraw Mission uses a highly efficient method of purification that requires no chemicals, batteries or moving parts. Water poured into the purifier moves down the tube, while being forced through narrow hollow fibers. Clean water exits through tiny pores in the walls of the hollow fibers, but bacteria, viruses, protozoa and other contaminants are trapped inside and are flushed out by backwashing.
The LifeStraw Mission gravity powered water purifier removes 99.9999% of bacteria, 99.99% of protozoa, and 99.999% of viruses, while purifying an impressive 18,000 liters of water (4,750 gallons).
This thing rocks. It is well designed and so easy to use.
The package comes with a dry bag to hold the water, extension tube and filtration unit, carrying strap, storage bag, extra pre-filters, and instructions.
Because the reservoir is a bag, it is easily transportable, lightweight, and not too bulky when it is not full of water–unlike a filter that hooks to a bucket. The bag is stiff enough that it is easy to scoop water from your favorite contaminated water source (mine is the nearby creek). You want the cleanest water available, but this thing is built to handle plenty of nastiness.
The bag is marked with clear marks so you can see how much water you have in it. Once the water is in, squish the extra air out, roll the top over a couple of times, and clip it together to seal it off.
Attach the shoulder strap and you’re set to carry your water back to camp.
To filter the water, simply hang the bag up. You can wrap it directly around a tree limb, or use the shoulder strap to hang it. I’m kind of short, so I stood on a bucket and used the shoulder strap to get it over the limb. Attach the filter hose to the bottom (it snaps in easily), and you’re ready to start getting clean water. There is a pre-filter in the bottom of the bag so the water going into the hose is already cleaner than the water you scooped.
Gravity pulls the water down the hose and through the filter. The LifeStraw Mission fills your clean water container without you having to expend any extra effort. So you can go chop wood or pet your cat or whatever you need to do and the water goes on being filtered.
The red end is where you can flush the dirty water through, and the red bulb is the back wash bulb to clean out the filter.
Yes, we drank the water from the creek. My husband actually liked the taste better than the water from the tap in our home!
I am thrilled to be able to send one of these fantastic, easy to use filters to one of you! Huge thanks to EarthEasy for providing today’s prize!
Ready to get started? Remember, these 12 days of giveaways are sponsored by some really great companies and individuals, so to share the love, most of the entry methods will be ways of keeping in touch with them or this site. I’ll mix up the entry methods as we go through the twelve days, so those of you who don’t do one particular type of social media can still get entries. There will also be one FREE entry every day just for answering a random question about the Christmas season, so those of you who don’t do social media at all can even enter! And you also get bonus points for sharing this giveaway with your friends (and this is the season of sharing), so share it!
This giveaway starts December 4th at 12:00 am MST and ends December 6th at 11:59:59 pm MST. Three full days to enter, so get busy! Winner will be notified by email and have 24 hours to respond before a new winner is chosen. Prizes are shipped directly from the sponsor.
